What is a music video and its purpose

There are a number of purposes for music videos for example:
• Recognition – the audience can recognize the artist who is singing the song and know who is making the music so they can get a good reputation.
• Entertainment – the audience can be entertained by the visual as well as the audio because technology has moved forward audiences what to see more they feel more involved with a visual picture.
• The audience can aspire to be them - the audience can see what the star has got and either envy the star or aspire to be them this separates the audience and the star but not too much it makes the audience want to achieve what the star has achieved.
• To be idols – as before the star wants the audience to want to be them or similar to them and have what the star has got for example their status and their finances.
• To form a relationship between star and audience – the visual of the music video forms a relationship because the audience can not only hear the artist they can also see the artist this brings a closer bond between them.
